Hello Windows Insiders, we are happy to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview on the Dev channel! As we finalize the product in the coming months, we’ll work with you to validate the experience. You’ll be able to try many, but not all, of the new features we introduced last week in this early preview. We’ll be bringing more features to the Microsoft Store in the coming months, like Microsoft Teams chat and Android apps when they’re ready – we’re just starting this journey together!

Changes and Improvements –

– [General]
Windows 11 switches from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to voice access. WSR is being phased out. Once you open WSR, a dialog box will appear directing you to try voice access. They also added a banner in Settings > Accessibility > I talk like them. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses speech recognition on your device, allowing you to control your computer and compose text without an Internet connection. It will support more languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the Beta Channel, as mentioned above). They recommend WSR users try it out and start using voice access today.

– [Nearby Sharing]
They introduce the ability to quickly give your device a friendlier name to identify sharing to and from Nearby Sharing in Settings > System > Nearby Sharing.

– [Narrator]
Narrator users can now use voice access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with on-screen items using their voice. Narrator users can use voice access to send commands to Narrator using their voice. For example, “speak faster”, “read the next line”, etc. To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows Search and set it up.

Amendments –

– [Task Manager]
When creating a dump file for a process, the location of the dump file should now be selectable so you can copy it.

– [Desktops]
Several improvements have been made to help resolve an issue where the background could be seen jumping when switching between desktops
